Fourth of July Committee

4th of july celebration

The annual Weymouth Fourth of July event will be held on Saturday July 3, 2010 at the George Lane Beach in North Weymouth. Attracting a record crowd each year, the event will feature musical groups, food and novelty vendors, and moon walk structures for children and concession stands featuring a wide array of food choices. The highlight of the event is the twenty-five minute fireworks display conducted over Weymouth’s waterfront at 9:30pm. The members of the Fourth of July Committee include: Chairman, Ronald Rizzo, Barbara Farrell, William Robinson, Louise Sansone, Paula Henderson, Peter Webb Sr. and Lee Hultin.

Throughout the year, the Fourth of July Committee conducts can/bottle fundraising drives, an annual appeal campaign, as well as special events/activities to raise funds for the event. The Town of Weymouth Community Events Committee is responsible for organizing and conducting several annual community wide events on behalf of the Town of Weymouth.

The Valentine’s Day Party was held on February 8, 2009 at Immaculate Conception from 2-5 pm. It featured indoor amusements, face painting, card making, cupcake decorating, live demonstrations, music and concessions. Donations were raised for the Weymouth Food Pantry and we thank everyone who participated!

The Great Pumpkin Give-A-Wey will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Town Hall/Libby Field from 12-4 p.m. This events features informational/raffle tables from community service organizations, face painting, amusements, concessions, horse drawn hayrides, farmers’ market, scarecrow parade, pumpkin carving contest and the famous “pumpkin patch”.

The Annual Holiday Celebration and Tree Lighting event is held on the first Sunday of December at the front of the Veteran’s Memorial Wall next to Weymouth Town Hall. This event features pictures with Santa and Mrs. Clause as well as hot cocoa and cookies. At 3:00 an indoor movies is shown followed by the tree lighting ceremony outside at 5:00 p.m.

Admission and pricing to all events are free. In some instances, there may be a charge for amusements, food items, etc. Proceeds raised from all events are used to support community events conducted by the Town of Weymouth.


Weymouth Cultural Council

The six members of the Weymouth Cultural Council are responsible for the distribution of arts lottery funds and for the promotion and encouragement of the arts in the local area. Members of the Cultural Council include: Chairperson, Debbie Courteau, Gerti Gillen, Lori Ann Powers, Michelle DeSaulnier, Judith Alukonis and Charlene Terravecchia.

To obtain a copy of any application for cultural grant, please visit www.massculturalcouncil.org. Deadlines for all grants are established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the web site. Grant applications must be submitted to the Weymouth Town Hall, 75 Middle Street, East Weymouth MA 02189 to the attention of the Weymouth Cultural Council.


Youth Coalition

The Youth Coalition is a seven member coalition which consists of the Mayor, Superintendent of Schools, Chief of Police, Director of Health, Division of Youth and Family Services, or their designees, and two community members appointed by the Mayor.
In addition, the committee may, by majority vote, solicit stake holders in youth activities, such as parents of school-aged children, concerned citizens, members of the clergy and other agencies dedicated to youth concerns, to participate as nonvoting members of the coalition.
The coalition meets on the last Friday of each month at noontime at the Weymouth Teen Center, 1393 Pleasant Street, East Weymouth MA 02189. The Youth Coalition meets to discuss youth concerns in a community based manner, with particular focus on the prevention of substance abuse, violence, and other high risk behavior.
