The Planning and Community Development Department provides a wide range of services to the town’s residents and businesses. These services include but are not limited to the following activities:
Development Review and Approval
The review of various development applications to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws. Encourage new developments and redevelopment that is appropriate for the community and compatible with the natural environment.
The department is responsible for the administration of several housing rehabilitation programs, as well as promoting and providing housing opportunities affordable to people of all income levels.
Administration of a wide range of programs that are funded under the federal Community Development Block Grant program. These programs assist residents with special physical, financial and social needs.
Foster a strong local economy that offers a range of employment opportunities and the convenience of the availability of a wide array of goods and services.
Fair Housing Commission
The Commission monitors the town’s Fair Housing Program,, monitors the enforcement of fair housing practices, and promotes human rights education.
Board of Zoning Appeals
The Board is responsible for acting on applications for variances and special permits as required in the Town’s Zoning Ordinance.
The Board is responsible for preparation and implementation of the Town’s Master Plan, updating various elements of the plan, administration of the Subdivision Control Law and preparation of the Town’s Capital Budget Plan.
