A Building Permit is Required For:
- Tents
- Roofing
- Demolition
- Additions
- Siding
- Tool Sheds
- Above-Ground Pools
- Window Replacement
- Signs
- In-Ground Pools
- Decks
- Wood Stoves
- Alterations
- All New Construction
Building Permit Fees are Based on the Value of Construction:
- Single-Family Permits are $10 per thousand, with a $30 minimum fee.
- All Other Building Permits are $15 per thousand, with a $45 minimum fee.
Please call the office for further assistance. For Inspection requests, please call the Inspector directly between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. They leave promptly at 9:00 a.m. for their daily inspections.
Mission StatementDepartment of Municipal Licenses and Inspections
The mission of the Department of Municipal Licenses and Inspections is to ensure that the built environment within the Town of Weymouth is a safe place for citizens to live, work, do business, learn, worship and be entertained.
- This is ensured by adequate enforcement of, and inspection for, compliance with all State and Local Rules and Regulations regarding construction, occupancy and licensing.
- Service is our primary function, and to that end we try to help every applicant do what they want to do within all the Codes, Ordinances, Rules and Regulations that we are charged with enforcing and to ensure that any citizen affected is adequately protected.
Management and Administration
Program Objective: To oversee the functions of the Department of Municipal Licenses and Inspections and to coordinate all licensing and inspection functions performed by the town; to ensure that the service provided is responsive to the applicants needs and promotes public safety throughout our built environment.
Zoning and Building Inspection
Program Objective: To ensure that the Town of Weymouth Zoning Ordinance and the State Building Code strictly, yet fairly, enforced in order that projects or structures may be completed and occupied safely in a timely manner through:
- Customer service at initial contact and throughout the process that is responsive and helpful, whether for a construction project, zoning interpretation, or complaint resolution;
- Plan and application review for Zoning and Building Code compliance;
- Issuance of Building Permits;
- Thorough professional completion of all field inspections;
- Issuance of Occupancy Permits;
- Maintenance of accurate and complete records.
Electrical Inspection
Program Objective: To ensure that the State Electrical Code is strictly, yet fairly, enforced in order that electrical systems work may be completed and opperating safely in a timely manner through:
- Customer service at initial contact and throughout the process that is responsive and helpful, whether for a construction project or complaint resolution;
- Plan and application review for Electrical Code compliance;
- Issuance of Electrical Permits;
- Thorough professional completion of all field inspections;
- Inspection for Occupancy Permits;
- Maintenance of accurate and complete records.
Plumbing / Gas Inspection
Program Objective: To ensure that the State Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes are strictly, yet fairly, enforced in order that plumbing and fuel gas systems work may be completed and operating safely in a timely manner through:
- Customer service at initial contact and throughout the process that is responsive and helpful, whether for a construction project or complaint resolution;
- Plan and application review for Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes compliance;
- Issuance of Plumbing and Gas Permits;
- Thorough professional completion of all field inspections;
- Inspection for Occupancy Permits;
- Maintenance of accurate and complete records.

Program Objective: To ensure that all tests and required inspections of devices processed in a timely manner through:
- Customer service at initial contact and throughout the process that is responsive and helpful, whether for a scheduled inspection or a complaint resolution;
- Issuance of Certificates;
- Maintenance of accurate and complete records.
