Mayor announces ground breaking for new ballfield and basketball court at Weston Park

Weymouth, MA – Mayor Robert Hedlund announced today that a ground breaking event will be held on Monday, September 18th, 2017 to kick off improvements at Weston Park in Weymouth Landing. Improvements will feature a new natural-grass softball field with upgraded irrigation, new field lighting, a small bleacher system, and universally accessible walkways. The park’s basketball court will also be resurfaced and repainted, and there will be new backboards, hoops, and a perimeter fence installed.

The Weston Park Ground Breaking Event will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, September 18th at the park entrance off Franklin Street. Parking will be available at the adjacent municipal lot on Franklin Street.  

Weston Park is among more than a dozen recreational facilities in Weymouth to receive renovations under an $11,408,000 parks improvement plan developed by Mayor Hedlund and funded by the Town Council in November of 2016. Other facilities to be improved include Bradford Hawes Park, E. Leo Madden Field, George Lane Beach, James O’Sullivan Playground, Julia Road Playground, Libby Field, Lovell Playground, Negus Park, Richard Gifford Playground, Stella Tirrell Park, and the Weymouth High School’s baseball field and basketball courts.
