Property in the possession of the Weymouth Police Department

*Notice is given pursuant to the Massachusetts General Laws

Chapter 135, Section 7 & Chapter 134, Section 1

Any Person who believes they may have unclaimed property being held by the Weymouth Police, should contact the Evidence Unit (781)340-5032 extention 249, to determine if they have a claim to the property (proof of ownership will be required). 

Pursuant to law, unclaimed property in the possession of the police department may be sold at public auction.  Unclaimed money in the possession of the police department will be deposited in the Town of Weymouth's general fund.  Private holders of found property assume ownership of unclaimed money or property one year after finding the property if they make a timely report to the police.

In addition to unclaimed property, the police department has in its possession numerous items of no commercial value (eyeglasses, keys etc.) that it holds as a courtesy for return to their owners.  If unclaimed, such property is disposed of without auction or further notice.

The Weymouth Police Department will be selling unclaimed property starting July 1, 2008 by means of online auction at the website www.propertyroom.com .  See website for rules.  The Weymouth Police Department will sell at auction unclaimed property including but not limited to, bicycles, cell phones, stereos, cameras, watches, jewelry, clothing and other personal items.  If anyone believes an item up for auction belongs to them, please contact the Weymouth Police Department's Evidence Unit at (781)340-5032 ext. 249. (proof of ownership required).
