Lecture: The History of the Boston Subway
Lecture: The History of the Boston Subway with Author/Illustrator Joe McKendry
Thursday, April 27th
Jones Room, Tufts Library
As part of the All Aboard, Greenbush!: One Train, One Book project of the public libraries of Cohasset, Hingham, Scituate, and Weymouth, we are pleased to host this lecture on the history of Boston's subway system.
Come hear about Boston's first "Big Dig" with Joe McKendry, the author and illustrator of Beneath the Streets of Boston: Building America's First Subway. Joe will share what he learning while researching his book about the workers who dug miles of tunnels by hand, using only picks and shovels. You'll also hear about the perception of underground transportation by the turn-of-the-century public, and how the system served as a model for the rest of the country.
All Aboard, Greenbush!: One Train, One Book is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC).
