To continue essential infrastructure inspections, personnel from the Weymouth Department of Public Works (DPW) and a hired consultant, Tighe & Bond, will be visiting stormwater outfall pipes throughout Town. The outfall inspection work will begin in June and is expected to continue into the fall. “Outfalls” are the end of the pipe where municipal drainage flows into nearby water bodies, wetlands, or low-lying areas. These inspections are part of Weymouth’s Stormwater Management Program to meet Clean Water Act requirements.
The inspection team will consist of 2 to 3 people wearing safety vests and carrying handheld equipment. In addition to DPW utility vehicles, Tighe & Bond staff will be using personal vehicles for travel. A sign will be placed in the windshield of all vehicles indicating that the car is associated with a consultant supporting the DPW. The work will be performed primarily off the roadway where the stormwater pipes discharge to wetlands, streams, or wooded areas. Work may include opening manhole structures within the street.
Maps of the outfalls located throughout town can be viewed at the Weymouth DPW website:
Inspection work will occur during normal DPW hours (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM).
