Juvenile Issues

Much of the Special Services Unit responsibility is the handling of juvenile issues (anyone under the age of 18). These responsibilities include the investigation of both crimes committed by juveniles, as well as crimes committed against juveniles.

The Special Services Detective will also assist in dealing with juvenile status offenses. Juvenile status offences are non-criminal activities committed by a juvenile such as, truancy, running away or misbehaving at home or at school. These offenses may result in a juvenile becoming involved with a CHINS (Child in Need of Services). The Special Services Detective can assist a parent or a school official in filing a CHINS application. The Special Services Unit works closely with the Weymouth School System and other social services agencies responsible for the well being of juveniles.
