        Weymouth Police LTC Application Requirements

          An applicant must submit all of the following:

  • Applications must be completed prior to scheduling an appointment. We have provided a link below to the LTC Application which is downloadable and writeable. Please complete the packet including phone number next to the name of each reference on page (2). Once you have completed the packet you can email it to the following addresses:

  • You will need to print out the application, sign it and bring it in with you at the time of your appointment at the Weymouth Police Station.
  • Once we have received you LTC application we will be in contact with you to provide you with an appointment date.
  • Applications must be completely filled out, dated and signed. Please be sure to answer truthfully and type or print clearly.
  • NOTE: Question (4) of page (2) of the LTC application refers to any criminal charge brought forth against you, in the court of law, regardless of the outcome.  If you appeared in court as a defendant and the charges brought against you were filed, dismissed, pardoned, sealed, etc… it is still your responsibility to inform the licensing authority. Having been arrested and convicted of a crime does not necessarily prohibit you from getting an LTC or FID. Not putting it down does. You do not need to put down non-criminal traffic offenses. Be advised you are signing under the penalties of perjury and if your application is not completely truthfully, your LTC or FID request may automatically be denied.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and/or Massachusetts Identification Card
  • Applicants are required to bring the following documents to prove their Weymouth residency and/or business: Current Mortgage or Rental / Lease Agreement, Town of Weymouth Water and Sewer Bill, Town of Weymouth excise Tax for motor vehicle(s), utility invoice to include gas and electric bills, and/ or business registration. All items must include your name and address on the face sheet. Insurance invoices and/ or documents from registry of Motor Vehicles will NOT be accepted.
  • Citizens born in the United States are required to bring either Birth Certificate and, or US Passport to prove citizenship. Naturalized citizens are required to bring their Naturalization Certificate, which should include the date, number, and location (city/state) of naturalization. Permanent Residents are eligible with their Green Card. Renewals within the Town of Weymouthwill not require proof of citizenship.
  • Copies of your Ma. License or ID, Passport or Birth Certificate, Each item used for Proof of Residency, Firearms Safety Course as well as Live Fire Target are to be brought in at the time of your appointment. We will verify the originals and return them to you. We will then take the copies and place them into your file. We will not be making copies of these items for you. 
  • Renewal candidates should bring their current or expired LTC or FID.
  • A $100 non-refundable fee is collected for ALL persons when applying for a first time LTC or FID.  A $25 non-refundable fee is collected when applying for a Restricted -FID for persons under the age of 18. Money orders or bank checks payable to the Town of Weymouth are the only forms of payment accepted. Personal Checks and Cash are not accepted. The renewal fees are waived for applicants who are 70 years of age or older.
  • Photos and fingerprints will be taken by the Licensing Officer during your appointment
  • First time LTC or FID applicants are required attend a State Certified Massachusetts Hunter Safety and/or Massachusetts State Police Basic Firearms Safety course. A certificate from either course will be required on the date of your appointment. The course must have a live fire segment to it and the applicant must have proof of this, ie, target dated and signed by the instructor with the instructor’s ID number. This does not apply to renewal candidates.
  • Letter addressed to Chief Richard M. Fuller detailing your needs for an unrestricted license to carry firearms
  • All applicants applying for an unrestricted LTC for employment purposes must have a letter from their employer stating the nature of the business and the requirement need for employment.
  • New applicants applying for a license to carry require three (3) letters of recommendation showing good character, emotional stability, no excessive drinking habits, substance abuse or violent behavior. Two of these references can be the same as the ones you listed on the application. Each letter must be on 8 ½” X 11” paper, dated and signed and must show the author’s name, address and phone number. Relatives are not acceptable as references.
  • For the purposes of an LTC you must Be 21 years of age at time of application
  • Licenses are valid for not less than 5 years nor more than 6 years from your birthday.
