American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)

What is the American Rescue Plan Act?

It is the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. $350 billion is going to state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments to respond to the COVID-19 emergency and restore jobs. ARPA will directly deliver $17,804,215 in federal funding to the Town of Weymouth to aid in our economic recovery. Up to an additional $11,216,484 is expected to be delivered to Weymouth through Norfolk County’s ARPA allocation.

On this page you will find the “Overview of the Final Rule,” which provides a summary of major provisions of the final rule. It is meant for informational purposes and is intended as a brief, simplified user guide to the final rule provisions, to which the town must adhere.

The Town set the following “Priorities and Principals for Consideration” of ARPA spending:

  • Projects that have the greatest impact on residents, both directly and indirectly
  • Projects that lead to economic opportunity and recovery
  • Projects that make an impact on the town’s physical infrastructure
  • Projects that effectively assist vulnerable populations impacted by COVID-19
  • One-time projects with no or limited recurring or ancillary costs
  • Projects that produce savings or increase the town’s revenue base in the future
  • Existing Weymouth-based projects/programs that can be enhanced/expanded
  • Projects that avert disruptive and costly delays, and promote efficiency

Over the next few years, the Town of Weymouth will invest an unprecedented amount of funding into our community. Mayor Hedlund wanted our residents to help prioritize this funding so that it has the most positive impact on our community. A survey was launched with a tremendous response. That survey and those results are available below.

In addition, the town is required to submit quarterly reports on expenditures and projects. Those will also be posted on this page.
