Parking Ticket Appeals

Massachusetts General Laws allow individuals to challenge the issuance of parking tickets.  You must request an appeal within 21 days.  Any appeals after 21 days from the date of the violation was issued are considered solely at the discretion of the Parking Clerk and may not be granted.  All appeals must be in writing.

At this time, we are not holding in-person hearings.  A parking ticket appeal must be in writing and include the following information: contact name, mailing address, ticket number, date/time of ticket issuance, make/model of vehicle, license plate number and the violation code/reason for the ticket as well as your reason for appeal.  Upon receipt, the appeal will be reviewed and researched and you will be provided with a response in writing within approximately 5-10 business days. Please note that you will not be charged any late fees during the appeal process. If appeal is approved no payment will be required.  If appeal is denied payment will be required by the due date specified in the decision letter issued by the Parking Clerk.  If payment is not made by the required due date stated in the letter, you will subject to additional fees & possible non-renewal of your license and/or registration.

Your appeal request can be sent via email to parkingclerk@weymouth.ma.us or by mailing your appeal to the Parking Clerk, Town of Weymouth, 75 Middle Street, Weymouth, MA  02189, or online via this form (You may also submit an appeal online by completing our PARKING TICKET ONLINE APPEAL FORM. Please make a copy of the ticket/notice and submit with your written request.  Please keep the original ticket in your possession.

A decision will be rendered within 5-10 business days. Decisions made by the Parking Clerk are final.  If you do not receive a response in writing from the Parking Clerk, please call the Parking Clerk at 781-682-3556 to verify that your appeal was received.  DO NOT assume that no response means the ticket was dismissed.  The Parking Clerk will respond to all appeals by mail or email.

If you do not agree with the Final Judgment of the Parking Clerk, you may file a formal complaint with the Norfolk County Superior Court for a fee.  To appeal the Final Judgment, issued by the Parking Clerk, the Appellant must contact the Superior Court Clerk directly to request information on the appeal process and associated filing fees.

According to General Laws, chapter 90, section 20A ½, any person may appeal any decision of a Parking Clerk to the superior court under the provisions of General Laws, chapter 30, section14(1).  Superior Court Standing Order 1-96 governs the procedure for these actions.
