Local History
The Weymouth Historical Society operates the Weymouth Museum in the lower level of the Tufts Library. The Museum is a collection of artifacts and memorabilia from Weymouth´s rich history. The Museum boasts one of the oldest and best- preserved Indian dugout canoes known to have survived over 500 years having been found at Great Pond in South Weymouth. It also has one of the largest butterfly and insect collections from around the world assembled by a private collector. Some of our other exhibits include Indian artifacts, Revolutionary and Civil War artifacts, memorabilia of prominent Weymouth families, Fire & Police memorabilia, and much, much more.
The Museum is open Monday nights from 7 pm – 9 pm excluding holidays. Group tours are available and welcomed by appointment. To schedule a group tour, please contact Michelle Cappellini at 781-335-7665. For more information, contact the Weymouth Historical Society at 781-340-1022. Admission is free.
