FIMo Fire Insurance Maps Online
Fire insurance maps are an excellent tool for historical research. They cover cities and other developed areas, including details such as:
- Building size and construction
- Location of roads, railroad tracks, and shorelines
- Building occupants
- Property uses
Through Fire Insurance Maps Online (FIMo), we offer Massachusetts maps from the 18th and early 19th century.
Features of the maps available through FIMo:
- Public domain with no copyright restrictions
- Download historical maps as PDFs and JPEG images
- View a present day location on Google Maps and then overlay the historical maps
- Full color images provide important information about construction materials and changes over time that is missing from black and white scans
FIMo is available in the library. It can also be accessed at home with a Weymouth Public Libraries library card. Just enter your library card number and PIN. (Hint: If you don't know your PIN, the default is OCLN. If this doesn't work, you can reset your PIN online through the catalog or give us a call.)
