Safety Advisory Committee

Purpose:

To advise the Mayor on the promotion, safeguards and efforts taken to maintain workplace health and safety, to reduce the risk of workplace injuries, to help inform and educate employees and supervisors about safety issues, new standards to help ensure compliance with federal and state standards and to share with management the responsibilities for implementing and monitoring safety programs and training needs.

Scope:

The Safety Advisory Committee shall have co-chairs, John MacLeod and Marsha Conley, and a clerk, Caroline LaCroix, along with the Department Head, or designee, from the following departments: School, Fire, Police, DPW, Elder Services, Recreation, and any other department this Administration deems appropriate.

The Committee shall meet quarterly or at special designated occasions as needed.  The primary focus shall be to discuss risk management, hazard assessment, loss analysis and the promotion and coordination of employee training, to institute programs to benefit overall employee health and safety town wide and to work with and assist departments with specific needs as they may arise.  The Committee shall be tasked with submitting a quarterly advisory report to the Mayor. 

The Members should attend all safety meetings, report any and all unsafe conditions or practices, review all incidents, suggestions and/or recommendations, contribute, maintain and implement trainings for each of their departments, review MIIA Reward programs and upcoming training schedules and determine needs.
