Museum Virtual Visits and Resources

Although we cannot currently visit the institutions that are a part of WPL’s Museum Pass Program, we can visit many of them virtually and enjoy the educational and entertainment resources they are providing to the public. 

We encourage you to explore the full range of resources on each of the museums’ webpages, but are including some particularly enriching links below.

Boston Children’s Museum

Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston

  • Visit the ICA virtually by exploring its Collection page.
  • Explore videos and audio recordings including exhibition previews, artist interviews, studio visits, and talks between artists and curators on ICA’s video collection page
  • ICA produces many publications which can be accessed on its Publications page.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

John F. Kennedy Library & Museum

  • View the JFK Library & Museum’s permanent exhibits.
  • Immerse yourself in the dynamic history of the Kennedy Administration by visiting the museum’s Interactives pages and start delving in the abundance of documents held by the Library on their Archives page.

Museum of Fine Arts

  • Explore the thousands of works in the MFA’s collections by using the search bar on their Collections Search page.
  • Add some art into your day and enjoy the MFA from home by watching this selection of videos from their Video Library page, from virtual exhibition tours and interviews with artists to soothing musical performances. 

Museum of Science

  • Study the MOS’s Exhibits page and be ready to hit the ground running once they open their doors again.
  • The MOS’s  building may be closed. But science never stops. And neither does the Museum of Science! Here’s a collection of STEM resources designed to bring the Museum — to you!

Mystic Aquarium

  • Add some cheer to your quarantined days by watching the Mystic Aquarium’s Penguin Live Stream!
  • Follow the Aquarium’s Facebook page for almost daily live videos of the animals.

New England Aquarium

  • Join NEA for a virtual visit on Facebook or YouTube every day at 11 a.m. during their temporary closure.
  • See their Virtual Visit page for educational videos and activities.

Peabody Essex Museum

  • #PEMfromHome: PEM has pulled together all sorts of interesting digital content for you to explore while the museum is closed. Subscribe to the PEMcast, read their stories, explore their art projects for kids, and take a deep dive into the collection.
  • Stay Connected: Sign up for PEM’s weekly e-newsletter and follow PEM on social media. Find them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter where they are keeping the #peabodyessex conversation going.

Plimoth Plantation

  • Plimouth Plantation’s sites may be temporarily closed, but you can still experience Plimoth online! They're bringing history into your home with a range of online programs and resources for families and individuals - from their new History @ Home™ live virtual visits with Plimoth educators ($10 per program) to coloring pages for children to their Interwoven podcast series.

Roger Williams Park Zoo

  • Learn about the Animals on Exhibit.
  • Virtual Zoo School
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays at 2pm EDT: Roger Williams Park Zoo is bringing the Zoo to YOU! Grab the kiddos for some wild educational fun with our favorite critters every Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm EDT during our new Zoo School series. Get a behind-the-scenes look at our animals and explore a fun activity you can do at home.

Zoo New England

  • Explore the Animals on Exhibit at the Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo. Multiple photos of and fun facts about each animal. Some videos of the animals are included such as the roaring African lion
  • Every day at 1:30 p.m., check out our Facebook pages (Franklin Park Zoo | Stone Zoo) for a daily dose of animal cuteness, chats with our care staff, crafts and activities to do at home, and more!
