Outreach

Outreach responds confidentially to calls for assistance from seniors. Services are provided to any Weymouth Resident over age 60. These services include a needs assessment, advice regarding resources available, referrals to appropriate agencies, home visits, assistance with programs and filling out applications. Outreach provides a caring link to the community for those who have a problem, or need a remedy for isolation and loneliness. Our Outreach Workers assist elders in transition who may need guidance with housing, including assisted living and nursing home placement. Services provided include the following:

Newsletter

Elder Horizons is the monthly newsletter providing current information about Senior Center Programs and elder related issues. It is distributed across town and can be picked up at pharmacies, grocery stores, Tufts Library, Town Hall, Teen Center, churches, housing complexes, post office, banks and, of course, the Whipple Senior Center.  (Call for locations or have it mailed directly to your home. (See application for newsletter mailing subscription).

Transportation

The Department of Elder Services offers a variety of transportation services. Priorities are medical and medically related appointments. Wheel chair transport is available. Transportation to major Boston area hospitals for medical treatment is also available (depending on funding). Transportation for shopping occurs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Donations appreciated.Call the Transportation Administrator at 781-682-3824 to schedule an appointment.

Activites Transportation - We are offering transportation to and from the senior center for popular activities, programs, and events. If you'd like to participate in exercise classes, knitting, cribbage, or most of the programs we offer on weekly basis or if you need a ride to see an outreach or shine counselor, we can get you here. Activities transportation is offered at a $1.00 donation each way or $2.00 roundtrip. Call 781-682-3813 to schedule your ride.

South Shore Elder Services - Meals for Seniors

Meals On Wheels delivers a main meal to homebound persons 60 years of age or older who are unable to prepare meals, and who are homebound. The suggested donation is $2.25 per meal. If interested in Meals on Wheels, call (781) 848-3910. For those interested in going to the meal site call: 339-499-6419.

Lunches are served Monday through Thursday at 12:00 Noon at the Whipple Senior Center. Call by 10:00 a.m. the day before you come in (339-499-6419). Suggested donation $2.25.
