New library building plans to be presented at community meeting

Weymouth, MA – The Town of Weymouth seeks public input on schematic design plans currently underway for the construction of a new main public library. This level of design is a prerequisite for funding under the state's Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program (MPLCP), which could assist the Town in paying 43 to 44 percent of eligible construction costs for a new library. Public participation is critical to the MPLCP's application process.

Initial conceptual plans for the new library will be presented in a community meeting on Tuesday, November 29th at 7:00 pm in the Jones Room of the Tufts Library. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts, ideas, and comments with the Town's architects and members of the Town's Library Construction Committee. The presentation will be given by the firm Johnson Roberts Associates of Somerville, the Town's architects and consultants in the MPLCP application process. Johnson Roberts Associates has been responsible for the design of over 70 public libraries and has completed construction of 30 public libraries. Since founding their practice 22 years ago, the firm has successfully prepared 35 submissions for library construction grants, resulting in 35 awards.
