Columbian Square Improvement Project Weekly Anticipated Construction Schedule: October 23 – 27, 2023
Beginning on Monday, October 23, 2023, construction crews are anticipated to conclude full-depth roadway reconstruction work, starting near #129 Pleasant Street. Crews will relocate to Union Street to begin full-depth excavation into the remainder of the week. A two-way traffic management plan will be maintained with lanes shifting throughout the week and Weymouth Police Details will assist all pedestrians at street crossings in the work zone. Roadway paving is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, on Pleasant Street starting at 6:00AM in front of the Post Office. Work will proceed east on Pleasant Street throughout the day; and regular work hours are expected to extend into the evening. While disruptions are inevitable, roadway paving will be phased in a method to minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses in the work zone. Minor delays will take place as the paving crew moves east toward #134 Pleasant Street (C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home).
- DETOUR & Parking Restrictions: Eastbound traffic on Pleasant Street will detour right at Central Street, then left at Camelot Way onto Union Street and left back onto Pleasant Street. Please note, there will be no curbside parking on Pleasant Street while this work is underway. Temporary NO PARKING signs will be installed and any vehicles parking in this area will be ticketed and towed. Available parking will be located at the Municipal Town Parking lot off Chauncy Street and Camelot Way.
- Construction Impacts: To reduce impacts as much as possible, it is highly encouraged that motorists seek alternate routes and expect brief traffic delays to facilitate efficient work and follow posted detour signage and instructions from the Police Detail Officers that will be present. Parking may become unavailable in some areas as work progresses.
The entire roadway reconstruction process is planned to be completed by early-to-mid- November 2023, weather permitting. Ambulances and school buses will be given priority access through the work zone. Police detail officers will be on site to facilitate safe pedestrian and vehicle movements throughout the project area.
