The Board of Zoning Appeals hears and decides cases brought by persons seeking land-use relief as provided in the Town’s Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 120 and under MGL c. 40A, §7, 9, and 17. Relief may be given in the form of a special permit, variance, comprehensive permit (Chapter 40B application), and/or an overturning of a decision by the Inspector of Buildings.
The Board of Zoning Appeals is composed of five regular voting members and four associate members appointed by the Mayor. Members are chosen from the community at large and strive to represent a balanced mix of professional and educational background in the fields of architecture, civil/structural engineering, law, business, building/construction, real estate development, and the environment.
In the case of an unfilled vacancy or inability to participate on the part of a voting member of the Board, the Chair may designate one of the associate members to take the place of such member.
