Columbian Square Improvement Project Weekly Anticipated Construction Schedule: November 4–10, 2023

Construction crews are scheduled to begin roadway paving on Columbian Street from 7:00AM to 3:30PM. The work zone will extend from the intersection of Columbian Street and Pleasant Street to the front of the Cameo Theater (approximately #14 Columbian Street).
DETOUR & Parking Restrictions: This work will require a two-way detour for northbound and southbound traffic on Columbian Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured west on Pleasant Street, then right on Main Street (Route 18), then right onto Columbian Street. Southbound traffic on Columbian Street will be detoured left on Burton Terrace then right onto Torrey Street and back onto Pleasant Street. Please note, there will be no curbside parking on Columbian Street while this work is underway. Temporary “NO PARKING” signs will be installed and any vehicles parking in this area will be ticketed and towed. Available parking will be located at the Municipal Town Parking lot off Chauncy Street and Camelot Way. This detour will be lifted when paving operations are complete.
To reduce impacts as much as possible, it is encouraged that motorists seek alternate routes and expect brief traffic delays to facilitate efficient work. Follow posted detour signage and instructions from the Police Detail Officers.
November 6 – 10, 2023
Beginning on Monday, November 6, 2023, crews will begin trench repair work starting at Blanchard Road and Pleasant Street moving toward the intersection of Tower Avenue and Pleasant Street. Trench repair will continue throughout the rest of the week, progressing toward the intersection of Pleasant Street and Central Street on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, and then to the Chauncy Street/ Pleasant Street intersection on Thursday and Friday (November 9-10, 2023). This work will not require any detours, and a two-way traffic pattern will be maintained throughout the week. A second crew will be busy in the same area raising water and sewer castings for access for maintenance.
The entire roadway reconstruction process is planned to be completed by early-to-mid- November 2023, weather permitting. Ambulances and school buses will be given priority access through the work zone. Police Detail Officers will be on site to facilitate safe pedestrian and vehicle movements throughout the project area.
