These concept sketches are for the four paintings below. The Friends of the Weymouth Libraries donated the paintings to the Tufts Library in 1965 in honor of the new library building that opened that year. Bill lived and worked in both Weymouth and Braintree. He was well-known for painting local scenes, with a particular interest in historical buildings that reflected his training as an architect.

The Arnold Tavern was a popular meeting spot. There is now a historical site marker where it stood, on Commercial Street at Washington Street across from Sacred Heart School.
Cowing House, 1802. Demolished 1962. Mr. and Mrs. Cowing in Doorway.

The Cowing House was built for Samuel Arnold Jr., who operated the Arnold Tavern, which was across the street.
