New Hires - Benefit Eligible

Eligibility

To be benefit eligible, you must be actively working a minimum of 20 hours per week AND be an active member who is contributing regularly through payroll to Mass Teachers Retirement (MTRS) or Weymouth Contributory Retirement (TRET) System.


Benefits Offered

Your benefit eligibility date is the first of the month following 60 days of continuous employment under benefit eligibility status.  Please note, your health insurance eligibility date may be subject to change if you are considered a transfer (per the Group Insurance Commission).

Health Insurance; Through the Group Insurance Commission, employees are offered 7 Non-Medicare health plans to choose from, each plan includes a prescription drug plan.   

Dental Insurance; Through Sunlife Financial, employees are offered 3 dental plans to choose from.

Vision Insurance; Through Eyemed Visioncare, employees are offered 2 vision plans to choose from.

Life Insurance; Boston Mutual Life Insurance offers a Basic Group Life Insurance policy at a value of $3000, that the Town contributes a portion to.  If an employee enrolls in the Basic Group policy, they are eligible to enroll in additional and dependent life coverage. 

Flexibile Spending; Through Cafeteria Plan Advisors, the Town offers a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan Flexible Spending Account.  The plan is goverened by the IRS which allows you to pay for qualified benefits with pre-tax dollars. 

Life Plus Insurance; Life Plus Insurance offers Cancer, Disability, Critical Illness, Accident and Permanent Life Insurance through Allstate.  Nationwide offers Pet insurance.


Benefit Form Packet

You should have received a benefit form packet.  This form has your hire date, packet return date and eligibility date.  This form MUST be filled out completely.  If you are not taking the benefit, we ask that you write your name on the form, and refuse benefit.  Please keep the packet together and pass it back in when due.  


Health Insurance

If you have chosen to pick up Health insurance, your information will be entered into the GIC system from what was provided by you in the Benefit packet.  You will be sent a link from mygiclink to the email account indicated on your benefit form packet.  You will also receive an email from the Benefits Coordinator informing you the link has been sent and instructions for filling out the online form to the emailemail and (if different) to your work email, informing you that the link has been sent to you and to give you some instructions.
