Tutor Policy

The Weymouth Public Libraries aim to support the research and educational needs of its patrons. As part of this educational mission, tutoring is permitted on the premises so long as the following rules are adhered to:

  • Tutors are responsible for the behavior of their student(s) during the session. Children under the age of 12 who are tutored in any of the libraries are the responsibility of the tutor while on Weymouth Public Libraries property until they are released to a parent/guardian, or to someone providing authorized transportation.
  • Tutoring sessions may not be held in the Children’s or Teen rooms at Tufts Library. Tables or other work spaces can neither be reserved, nor can the expectation be made that others will be asked to move or adjust their behavior to accommodate a tutoring session.
  • Weymouth Public Libraries staff will assist tutors and their students, just as they assist any library patron, but must be available to all who are seeking their assistance.
  • Conversations or instruction should not be loud enough to distract other library users. If the noise level becomes distracting, tutors may be asked to move to a more suitable location.
  • Tutors may not work with more than two students at a time in public areas. With larger groups, meeting rooms may be rented by tutors; all rules and fees as outlined in our Meeting Room Policy will apply.
  • Tutors and parents must bring their own supplies, such as paper, pens, pencils, etc. Tutors may use library materials (i.e. library books) and equipment (i.e. computers) in accordance with Weymouth Public Libraries policies.
  • Tutors may not publish or distribute advertisements or letters identifying any of the libraries as their place of doing business or imply Weymouth Public Libraries sponsorship of their activities.
  • It is recommended that tutors check the hours of operations and program schedules of the library they plan to use before making appointments with students.
  • The Weymouth Public Libraries does not sponsor, recommend, or assume liability or responsibility for the work and/or activities of tutors who use available library space. All arrangements must be made between the tutor, student and parents.

Tutors and students must abide by all Weymouth Public Libraries’ policies, including but not limited to Appropriate Library Use Policy and Safe Child Policy.
