Is my lot grandfathered?

This can be a complex question, and it often requires a great deal of research to find an answer. Since the issue deals with the ability to build on a lot, only the Inspector of Buildings can provide an authoritative answer. Applicants should be aware that if they apply for a special permit to extend or change a pre-existing nonconforming structure or use, the burden will fall on the applicant to prove that the structure or use was indeed lawful prior to when the town's Zoning Ordinance was changed to create the nonconformity (see the Weymouth Zoning Ordinance, Article XIII, Section 120-40).
